Pychoasis
In our post-modern aesthetically driven society, where entertainment has a profound impact on our internal cognitive functions, "Psychoasis" pulls back the curtain on corporate aesthetic tactics that shape our perceptions, behaviors and desires. Expressing how a formal departure from realism can permeate the subconscious on a deeply impactful and permanent level.
Thru use of video installation, painting, sculpture and sound Kuhn formally demonstrates these tactics to her viewers. She directs the empty nature of the quantum world versus the lively nature of the human spirit. A culmination of works made from a decade of chaos , Pychoasis serves as a metaphor for the dystopic paradise of the hyper aesthetisized American dream. While attempting to depict the melancholic emptiness the artists distinct style and influence always bleeds thru pulling us into Kuhns world; One of buoyancy and optimism. Regardless this particular dream is just A simulacrum; a mirage of an idea of an Idea of paradise. The paradisiacal works mimic the aesthetic tactics of our reality while offering a resting point, waiting room , or limbo of sorts for our weary dense souls. Domestic works comfort our bodies and digital works from a crystal screen sooth our eyes as we bide our time in this material realm.
Separated in the physical but connected thru the ether and in the digital Psychoasis examines our relationships with symbolism and imagery and demonstrates its power when combined with light, sound, and liquid crystal technology.
Art

Kuhn explores the interplay between liquid crystal display technology and the potent agency that screens exert in our lives, juxtaposing these modern elements with the timelessness of traditional painting and sculpting. She also examines how our phone screens serve as mirrors, reflecting our innermost selves.
